ISSUE III SUBMISSIONS CLOSED

At The Washtenaw Times, we believe every young voice deserves to be heard. Submitting your work is simple: just fill out the form with your piece, give it a title (if you do not have a title, we will make one for you), and let us know how you’d like to be credited. You can choose to use your real name, pen name, or just "anonymous".

All submissions go directly to our editorial team. We may make small edits for clarity or grammar, but your voice and style will always stay true to you. As long as it follows our submission policy, your work will be considered for publication. After submitting, you will be notified as soon as possible! If you piece has been accepted, we will send you more information about publication so your work can be shared with readers from all around the world!

Submission Policy

At The Washtenaw Times, we welcome creative voices from teen writers everywhere. Before submitting, please take a moment to read our submission guidelines:

  1. What to Submit

    • We accept verse (poetry), features (long fiction, long nonfiction), margins (flash fiction, micro prose), and gallery (artwork, photography) from authors and artists ages 12-25.

    • We are open to pieces in different languages; however, you must include an English translation of your writing.

    • We allow simultaneous submissions and previously published pieces.

    • You may submit as many pieces as you like!

    • Verse cannot exceed 300 lines.

    • Features cannot exceed 5,000 words.

    • Margins cannot exceed 1,000 words.

    • Submissions should be your own work.

  2. How to Submit

    • Complete our submission form (see above).

    • Paste or attach your piece directly into the form.

    • Include the title, your preferred name (real name, pen name, or “anonymous”), and a valid email address so we can contact you.

  3. Editing Process

    • Our editors may make small adjustments for grammar, clarity, or formatting.

    • We will never change your unique voice, tone, or style.

  4. Publication

    • You will be notified of your status around one week after submitting.

    • If accepted, your piece will appear in The Washtenaw Times' website.

    • Published work may also be shared on our social media to highlight your talent.

  5. Rights & Ownership

    • You keep all rights to your work.

    • By submitting, you grant The Washtenaw Times permission to publish your piece online and in related media.​
